sunday by the sea at Howth

Day trip to Howth, a popular weekend destination at the outskirts of Dublin. Former fishermen’s village, it turned into a residential village for wealthy Irish.

First time in my life I ate fish with loads of mayonnaise and ketch-up.

A small pub near this church, where we enjoyed several pints by a huge fire place, amid a very friendly atmosphere during a football match.

a saturday in Dublin

An unusually quiet Saturday morning in Dublin. And not necessarily because it was very early, for it was near 11 a.m., but …hey, it was weekend, and people were recovering after a very long Friday night. All the streets in Temple area were bearing the signs of past “celebrations”….

It was mid January, but everything was green and the trees were just starting to flourish….thanks to the warm currents in the North Atlantic…. Latitude did not matter that much, since back home Bucharest was under 1 m of snow…

A statue of Guinness in front of Saint Patrick’s cathedral….it was now that I realised Guinness was not just an appreciated brand of beer.

Ireland was holding the rotating presidency of the EU…and the Irish had a lot to boast of, since their standard of living had recently over passed their former …., the Brits.

The truth was that the church was heated, so we stood there for a half an hour to warm a little.

Back in 2004, smoking was allowed in pubs :-))

Saturday night….After a few beers, images are more blurred and less clear.

Irish photos courtesy of a close friend, with whom i flushed a hotel toilet a dozen times in a row :-))))
